Currently, Apple's iPhone uses Qualcomm's 5G chips. But for a long time, Apple has been trying to develop its own 5G chips to get rid of its dependence on Qualcomm. However, due to the complexity of 5G chips, Apple faces certain challenges to get rid of Qualcomm's chips. The deal suggests that Apple's plans to develop its own modem chips may take longer than expected. Apple bought Intel's modem business in 2019 with the aim of eventually producing its own 5G chips. However, the latest agreement suggests that Apple's in-house 5G modem may not be ready until 2026 at the earliest.
